All of us would have experienced failure at some point in our life and career. History cites examples of many famous people, who failed in their first attempt or initial years, and then achieved remarkable success. In fact, quite a few of these are people whose work touches our lives on an everyday basis.
Starting from Thomas Edison, whose teachers told him that he was ‘too stupid to learn anything’ to Soichiro Honda, who was passed over for an engineering job at Toyota and left unemployed before he began making motorcycles.
And to the more recent Dr. Seuss and J. K. Rowling, whose books and stories were first rejected by several publishers—there are enough stories before us of people, who stepped back from failure and made it a stepping stone to success. Bouncing back from failure is not an impossible task.
Here are some ways to keep in mind if some things have not worked out for you in your business.
Give yourself a mourning period but limit it
It is natural to feel low or shaken up after a failure. Give yourself a mourning period and let your negative emotions come out. However, set a limit to this mourning period. Only once the mourning period is over, you will be able to push yourself into recovery and action mode.
Analyze the situation
You will have to do a self-analysis of your failure. What went wrong? This question needs to be answered so that you don’t repeat your mistakes and fall at the same spots every time. Such an analysis will allow you to prepare a lesson chart from your failure and move forward with new learnings.
Give yourself a confidence boost
It’s not the end of the world if you fail to achieve one particular goal. There may be several other areas where you have met success; remind yourself of your successes and tell yourself you can get there with grit, determination, and a will to succeed.
Lean on your support system
There will always be people, who believe in you and your work. Find such people and spend time with them—this will let you get back into thinking, planning and action mode and move beyond your failure.
It is ok to lean on your family and friends during tough times. Also, find your mentors and investors and discuss your potential ideas with them. Tell them what you plan to do differently this time round and they will help you.
Embrace an activity that you like
Find the one thing that you can pour your soul into that gives you both satisfaction and joy. Pursue this hobby more while rebounding from failure as it will help you to calm down and come to terms with yourself.
Get, set and go
After the recovery and meditation phases are over, it is time to get back to action. Make a detailed plan for your next venture, clearly, set your goals and list out the things you have to avoid doing. This will help you to tread the path of success for sure.
