With the majority of IT departments managing hundreds or thousands of custom apps and developing many of them in-house, a growing number of organizations are investing in automated continuous testing, according to a recent survey from CA Technologies. The resulting report, “Continuous Testing as a Digital Business Enabler: Lessons from Leading Practitioners,” reveals that the majority of CIOs and their tech teams are optimizing software delivery via a combination of agile development, continuous delivery and lifecycle integration. They’re finding that continuous testing is playing an important, if not critical, role in attempting to meet evolving business needs and expectations. Fortunately, the report also indicates that senior business leaders are supportive, as they recognize the importance of software quality. “As organizations build their modern software factories, it is important not to sacrifice quality in the quest for ever greater speed and efficiency in business growth and success,” said Jeff Scheaffer, general manager of continuous delivery for CA Technologies. “Software quality and testing is becoming everyone’s responsibility. It is incumbent that business and IT management ensure everyone is appropriately enabled—business analysts, developers, release managers and operations professionals all play a role in the quality chain.” More than 920 global senior IT executives, managers and professionals took part in the research, which was conducted by Freeform Dynamics.
